Life can be stressful.
Take a deeeeeep breath.
(Don't forget to exhale.)
Repeat three times.
Trauma sucks.
There is hope!
I am a trauma therapist, certified in Francine Shapiro's EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitiation and Reprocessing) and well trained in Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing. This means that I have gone above and beyond to get really, really good at facilitating a healing experience.
EMDR is an empirically researched form of therapy used to treat a variety of symptoms resulting from trauma. While activating (thinking about intensely) traumatic material (memories), we use bilateral stimulation (left and right, repetitive movement) to stimulate both sides of the brain. This helps the logical side of the brain and the stuck trauma part of the brain to communicate together. When a trauma happens, the material gets stuck in its original format.
